While I was back in the U.S., I took the opportunity to pick up a GoPro. I’ve been looking for the right opportunity to make good use of it, and decided to strap it on to my motorbike helmet for a weekend trip to Ba Vi, for a hiking day-trip. The park is about 2 hours west of Hanoi.
On the way back, I got pulled over for accidentally driving through a no-bike zone – along with 10 Vietnamese motorbikers – and they asked me to pay a 1000.0000VND “fine” (I think they were shooting for 1,000,000VND=~$44USD). Unfortunately for them, I had about 3 USD left in my wallet. At first, they threatened to tow my bike, but once I showed them the empty wallet, they grumpily shooed me along. Ha!
My first attempt with the camera was less than ideal – the camera died while shooting time lapse photos, just before I entered the actual park, and now I can’t figure out how to attach music to my video….
So, the final product from the first attempt is a kinda choppy, soundless video compressing two hours of motorbike driving between Hanoi and Ba Vi. Hopefully it will give you an idea of what it’s like to drive on the roads!
